In Razz the lowest hand wins, so reading two lows against each other is your #1 edge. Master one trick: name the hand by its highest card and count downward.
The goal: five different low cards
Ace-to-five lowball. Your best five distinct-rank cards make your hand. Straights and flushes DON'T count against you, but pairs do — a paired card is dead.

Keep your five best distinct ranks and toss the rest. Dealt 8-7-7-4-3-2-A? Toss the duplicate 7 AND the 8 — your five lowest distinct ranks are A-2-3-4-7, a seven-low. Recount after every card.

An 'eight or better' is the benchmark for a genuinely strong made low. At showdown, lay both hands high-to-low and compare position by position — identical ranks split the pot.
- Read every low by its highest card first, then compare downward — lower card at the first difference wins.
